Construction Time

Last night we decorated our family gingerbread house. Unfortunately, we didn't pull the instructions out of the box we had bought until we were ready to start. The icing was supposed to set for an hour before putting the roof on and two hours more before decorating. What? We knew the kids would not sit around waiting for the icing to dry and we definitely were not going to stay up until ten o'clock to make a gingerbread house. So, we started anyway, letting the icing dry about 15 minutes in between, instead of the hours that the instructions said. Happily, the house is still standing! The boys had a great time putting candy on the house (and in their mouths). Aaron used his construction skills to make doors, windows, snow on the roof, and even icicles. And since there was icing left over when the candy was gone, he decided to decorate the kids too!

It's so fun reading about everyone's traditions! Is there a picture? It's not showing up for me. I'm glad the frosting worked fine. I probably would have done the same thing--waited to open the package until it was time to make it.
I bought a kit to do gingerbread men with Amelia and my nieces. I had planned to make homemade gingerbread and do houses, etc. But we have so much else going, that convenience won out this time.
