Before and After

Before

After

We loved our Nissan Frontier, power everything and a great view of the road. We did not love the high gas mileage (16 mpg is high to me, for a commuter car) or the car payment. We also weren't using the truck like we were when Aaron was a superintendent and hauling things around. So we went to Member's Auto Center at our bank, Arizona Federal Credit Union (Greenfield branch) to see how what they could do for us. We worked with Ryan (he's great! go see him if you need a new car) and told him what type of car we wanted and what we wanted our monthly payment to be. He got bids on how much he could get for our truck and started looking for a different car. We told him we wanted a Corolla, Civic, or Sentra, something with good gas mileage. We would have gotten a Prius if that was an option, but they're still too expensive. He called us about a couple cars he had found within the first week of our meeting, but they had too many miles on them. Then he called with a 2004 Honda Civic with 44,00 miles on it. We went to see it (he brought it to the bank for us to look at), took a test drive and decided that it would work great. They fully inspected and detailed the car before we signed all the paperwork. Ryan even arranged to have the windows tinted for us before we took it since that makes a huge difference in this heat. And the payments are lower, thanks to the tax refund money that we put toward the car. We had decided several months ago to make a change and we're so happy that we didn't have to go to a dealership and haggle and feel pressured to make a deal. We're glad it all worked out!

We're down to three chickens. On Saturday this fellow, one of our egg layers, started crowing and we didn't want to risk bothering our neighbors, so he had to go. To the table that is. Luckily Aaron took care of everything while I was at work. Parker helped throughout the whole process and loved it. He's the same way when they go fishing. Dallin and McKay could care less. They were watching a movie while Aaron and Parker took care of the chicken.

Last night for dinner Aaron baked the chicken with some lemon and seasonings. It turned out very tasty. The only downside was that it was still so small. Luckily, the boys don't eat very much and there was enough to feed our family. We're hoping to get another egg layer to replace this guy. And I'm even looking forward to eating some more chicken down the road. As long as Aaron takes care of everything!

Oh my gosh Stephanie. I don't know if I could've eaten it. At least he did while you were gone. Let's get together. I'll call you

The car looks great! I love civics. They are so dependable. I'm also so glad that you didn't have to prepare that chicken. Not my idea of fun. It was a fun post to read during my break. Thanks.

Wahoo for the new car!! LOVE it!! That should be a great way to help save some money with the crazy gas prices right now. K--so the second "before and after" pics are oh so lovely, but look how self-reliant you guys are...that is great. (And great that you didn't have to witness it:))

That blue color on your Honda is really cool. Now you're going to have all these occasions come up where you need a truck! But your gas bill will totally make it worth it.

The chicken is hilarious! Made me laugh to see it sitting there so still seasoned and baked to perfection. I don't know if I could eat it either...probably I would. I killed and cleaned a chicken as a youth on a pioneer trek. Everyone was egging me on, so I did the deed (cut the little head off). Although I am not a fisherman for the sole reason that I HATE and WILL NOT split a worm with my fingers...yuck!

That's so fun that you have egg laying chickens...super cool!

Chicken looks great! My brother has a small farm of a goat, goose, rooster and 2 chickens. He is wanting to get rid of the goose and rooster 'cause they're so mean. The only thing is they don't taste very good (more greasy).
Maybe someday when we have a yard instead of a pool we can be cool and have farm animals like everyone else. You are very impressive!

Wait. You have a male egg-layer? Ha ha, J/K. :) Congrats on the new car--that's great! Not having to deal w/a dealership sounds wonderful. And congrats too on your (Aaron's) first successful "backyard to table" chicken experience!

First of all, he did NOT seriously KILL a chicken (WITH your son's help) one day and then you cooked it and ATE it! See that's what the Foster Farms factory is for!:P Just teasin'! So, how many miles does the NEW car get?>

I love Honda's!! And that sounds like a great way to buy a car. It's very cute!!

...And the chicken...I am amazed at with Aaron, no wonder he is scout master. I commend you for eating him, I don't know that I would be as brave. It's all in my head though...funny, I can eat chicken from the store...but there was no relationship there I guess. We want to get some chickens (for eggs)!! Did you build a coop??
